The Medi-Kid Co. Arm Immobilizer Review

I recently had the opportunity to review a pair of arm immobilizers from The Medi-Kid Co. As most of you know I have a son who has Cerebral Palsy. He is a ten year old happy boy and has a smile as big as the sky. As a parent with a child of special needs of any kind you know it is like a roller coaster with ups and downs along the way both emotionally and financially. Our insurance like most have a lifetime CAP on equipment so we are always trying to find ways to save a dollar and shop around for equipment instead of just going where ever we are pointed by the therapists \  doctors. Our lifetime equipment cap is $50,000 which may sound like alot but, with a specialized wheel chair costing $10,000 it isn’t going to last long. Most doctors would just refer you to a company they work with for medical equipment and you will often pay double or triple what you would if you shopped around. With my son I was noticing an extreme tightness in his right arm that was making his arm stay bent and we needed something to help him keep it extended to keep it limber. This is where the Arm Immobilizer comes in and with a reasonable price. The price ranges from $22 to $60 depending on size and preference. It was something we could get without having to go through the doctor and jump through the hoops of getting one with insurance. Our use for this device is for a Physical Therapy such as  “weight bearing” therapy and night splinting to help stretch and relax his muscles while sleeping or watching television. The pair he has is without a thumb hole so he is allowed more freedom to use his hands if needed. You will need to measure the arms or legs before ordering so that way it is a proper fit and it didn’t take much time at all. Here is a how to video that shows how to measure the arm or leg to determine the correct size. What is great about this company is they have a wide variety of sizes from babies to adult sizes and also make leg and wrist immobilizers. That being said there are multiple uses for these immobilizers and the prevent unwanted movement when it is needed. They are fast and easy to use, latex -free, can be purchased with or without shoulder straps, with or without a thumb hole, machine washable, and have a fun and friendly appearance. You might be asking what are other uses for these immobilizers? Actually there is a lot of uses such as: Itching at night, Chicken Pox, Poison Ivy, Eczema, also Prevents pulling of NG tubes, IV tubes for those long hospital stays, Cleft palate surgery, and self -inflicted injuries. As for an adult there are plenty of uses as well such as Wrist sprains, Carpal tunnel,Tendonitis, Arthritis, knee Surgery, Tennis elbow, I can keep going on and on not to mention all the help it can be for the athletes today and at a price that doesn’t break the bank. Overall this has helped my son a lot and it has not been a full month of use. Only thing I would of liked to see is when ordering online you can not choose patterns and certain colors at that time. They will email you the available patterns and colors they have to choose from. You are always welcome to call if you have any questions the staff is really nice and eager to help you with anything you need. I do recommend the company and avoid the middle man and the time and hassle plus no prescription needed!
