I had a great opportunity to review a huge variety of items from Newman’s Own Organics.
I have to admit this would be the first for me, as in eating organic made foods other than vegetables or fruits from my own garden. So what really is organic and what does it mean? It means foods that are produced using methods of organic farming – that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Organic foods are also not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives. So lets just jump right into taste testing. I started off tasting the three types Newmans-O’s Cookies ( Cream filled vanilla, Cream filled chocolate, and Chocolate Cream filled chocolate ). I guess I expected it to taste like the average cookie but, I quickly realized this cookie was real and not filled with junk. They all tasted great especially the chocolate cookies with chocolate cream. Next on the list to try was the chocolate cups which were super dark chocolate cups with raspberry filling, peanut butter filling and the other was a milk chocolate with caramel filling. Let me start off with saying I truly do not like peanut butter! Although I never had an all natural organic peanut butter. The chocolate peanut butter cups were amazing and the ratio of chocolate to peanut butter was just right unlike your average peanut butter cup less chocolate and too much peanut butter. I absolutely loved the raspberry cups and you can tell that chocolate is all natural just by its taste of the cocoa and the raspberry puree couldn’t have been any more perfect than what it was. Then we get to the chocolate bars, I am a dark chocolate fanatic and I think they knew it because they sent a lot of them! We recieved (4) bars a 54% dark, 70% dark, 54% orange dark chocolate and a 34% milk chocolate. The only thing I can say about this is, “May I have another please?” It is extremely smooth and a fine chocolate. The kids really loved the licorice twist (sour strawberry, apple and mango) coated in the organic sugar. I thought they tasted great and kids devoured them. The Sweet and Sour complimented each other perfectly. Next on the list to try was the raisins which come in a 6 oz re-sealable pouch. I personally do not know anyone who doesn’t like a raisin they are just too good! I have been putting them in our children’s oatmeal in the morning and making ants on a log for them and plan to make oatmeal raisin cookies when bag gets half gone but, until then we are eating Newman’s salted pretzels which are great in every way they are thick strong pretzel and not doused with a ton of salt you could literally eat the whole bag if you don’t make yourself stop .We also received a box of light butter popcorn which is always great with a movie. Last but not least I received a bottle of organic extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar of Modena. I have used the Olive Oil in a recipe which can be found here but have yet to use the balsamic vinegar.
I wish they would sell these on their website because I do not have any store within 100 miles of me to purchase any of the items 🙁 but, they do have online retailers such as Amazon and Lucky Vitamin. At the end of it all I felt really good about giving my kids the cookies and candy knowing that it was all natural and a safer alternative. Another thing I found really interesting is that if you happen to read the packages some of them have story’s about that product and I found them very entertaining.
