Semi-mysterious and subtly politicized, the French production unit Alterbeats has built a brand around re-imagining golden era boom bap hip-hop through a more aggressive lens. “TV Screen” is a transatlantic collaboration with a trio of conspiracy-obsessed American lyricists—Chief Kamachi, Kromeatose and Block McCloud—who lumber and seethe punchlines over Alterbeats’ warped synths and diced-up operatic samples.
