“Fly Like an Eagle” blows so dreamily through the jasmine of the mind that it’s easy to overlook the tune’s striking construction. Over gentle, Meters-like funk, the crafty Steve Miller layers all manner of exquisitely shimmering sound effects over what is pure cosmic disco. Holding all this intoxicating ephemera together isn’t Miller’s lead vocal, but rather, that repetitive little earworm: tick-tock-do-do-do-dooo. So very, very smooth.
