Back in the ’80s, when Paul Weller first jumped from The Jam to The Style Council, he crafted one of the all-time great summertime heartbreak tunes. On this sublime concert reading of “Long Hot Summer,” Weller sits at the piano to revisit the classic. The conga drums and sequencers on the original are gone but the doo-wop vocals still come in at the halfway mark to mix in pure pop pleasure with the pain.
